Kale Cohen

Kale Cohen serves as a Division Lead for TREX and is the Ecological Restoration Coordinator for the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) in the Prairie Region. With a background in both wildfire and prescribed fire operations, Kale brings valuable experience in landscape-scale restoration and fire management. Before joining NCC in 2023, he spent three years as an initial attack wildland firefighter with the Province of Manitoba, responding to wildfires across the province, including the significant 2021 fire season. His introduction to prescribed fire came in 2022 through urban grassland restoration projects, and since then he has become a key leader in NCC’s prescribed fire program, overseeing the planning and implementation of restoration initiatives across prairie and forest ecosystems. As a planning and operations lead for prescribed fire, Kale contributes to one of the most established prescribed fire programs in the Canadian Prairies. NCC, a founding member of the Canadian Prairies Prescribed Fire Exchange (CPPFE), has been using prescribed fire as a conservation tool since 1992 and continues to be a leader in safe, effective, and collaborative fire management. He remains actively involved in TREX events throughout the Prairies. Kale’s expertise in ecological restoration, wildfire response, and prescribed fire operations makes him a valuable member of the TREX leadership team.
