Doug Chafa

Doug Chafa serves as a Trainer for TREX and is a Biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. With extensive experience in natural resource management and prescribed fire, Doug works to conserve and restore Iowa’s diverse landscapes through science-based stewardship practices. His career has focused on the management of native ecosystems, wildlife habitat, and the application of prescribed fire as a key tool for maintaining healthy and resilient landscapes. As a TREX trainer, Doug shares his knowledge and practical field experience with participants, helping build prescribed fire capacity through hands-on instruction, mentorship, and leadership. His commitment to conservation, ecological restoration, and developing the next generation of fire practitioners makes him a valued member of the TREX instructional team.
