Sam Gunn

Samantha Gunn serves as a Deputy Division Lead and Mentor for TREX and is the Coordinator of Learning Supports with Saskatoon Public Schools. Through her work at the Brightwater Eco Science and Indigenous Learning Centre, she supports land-based education initiatives that connect students, educators, and communities to the natural world through experiential learning rooted in prairie ecology and Indigenous knowledge systems. Guided by Elders Kathy Wahpepah-Eashappie and Tim Eashappie, Samantha is dedicated to fostering meaningful relationships with the land and creating learning opportunities that bridge Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives. Her involvement with prescribed fire began through a partnership between Brightwater and the Canadian Prairies Prescribed Fire Exchange (CPPFE), which helped reintroduce fire to the site in 2024 for the first time since Saskatoon Public Schools assumed its stewardship. Witnessing the ecological benefits of fire deepened her commitment to promoting landscape stewardship and ecological literacy. As a mentor and leader at TREX, Samantha brings expertise in education, collaboration, community engagement, and land-based learning, helping participants understand the critical connections between healthy ecosystems, cultural knowledge, and resilient communities.
